After five wonderful years in our senior community, Monica moved to be closer to her daughter. While we were sad to see her go, we were grateful for the time we shared.
Monica was more than a resident. She was family. She also worked as our part-time receptionist on evenings and weekends. Her kindness, humor, and welcoming smile touched everyone she met.
During the move, something unexpected happened.
Monica’s cat, Molly, became frightened by the activity and disappeared. As boxes and furniture were removed, there was still no sign of her. The apartment was nearly empty. The family searched everywhere.
Molly was gone.
Heartbroken but hopeful, Monica left behind Molly’s carrier and litter box. Staff continued to watch closely. Before long, food started disappearing. The litter box was being used.
Maintenance Director Jason followed his instincts. He believed Molly might be hiding behind the kitchen cabinets. He carefully removed part of the cabinetry.
And there she was.
Molly was safe. Scared, but unharmed.
Another challenge remained. How would Molly get back to Monica?
That’s when Machelle, our full‑time receptionist, and her husband stepped forward. They stepped in to transport Molly on a long drive from Iowa to Monica’s new home. Staff donated gas money to help make it happen.
Thanks to their kindness, Monica and Molly were reunited. “Molly” sent flowers to Stoney Point Meadows with the following note: “Thanks to all the wonderful people who searched for me all week. Love to all, Molly.”
This is what makes our retirement community special. People show up. Neighbors care. Pets matter.
At Stoney Point Meadows, assisted living memory care is more than services. It’s connection.
